Mario Maurer was born at the Bangkok Christian Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. He is of Thai Chinese and German descent. Later they owned a business in Nakhon Nayok Province for production and export of roll-on deodorants to countries such as France and Germany. Maurer has an elder brother of five years, who was born in Germany. He attended school at St. Dominic Savio Catholic School in Bangkok and now is studying in Ramkhamhaeng University, majoring in Communication Arts.
When Maurer was 16 years old, he was approached at Siam Square to try out modeling. From there on, he started doing photo shoots, commercials and music videos.
In 2007, he made his feature film debut in a leading role in The Love of Siam, written and directed by Chukiat Sakweerakul. The role "Tong" brought him many accolades and instant fame far beyond Thailand's borders. Commenting on his new-found fame, "I didn't want to do it, Acting wasn't on my list to do." He decided to do the movie because he trusted the director "Chukiat" and the movie would give him many opportunities. He'd be making money to help his family. He became famous in this film because of his gay role.
"I was nervous. I've never kissed a man and kissing is not something you do every day."
Mario Maurer finds Filipino women “very sexy and nice"
" Ilocos is very nice. We went to a place where there’s what they call a windmill. "
“He is very fun to work with, napaka-kid-at-heart niya. He’s very playful," - Erich to Mario
Asked what part of his body was his favorite, Mario (who never forgets to say “Please!” with every sentence) said, “My eyes. They are kind of like those of my mom’s and my dad’s. A mixture of their eyes. My mom has brown eyes and my dad has blue eyes.”
"I work here in the Thai movie industry and most of the people in it are gay. I respect them; I don’t have a bad attitude towards them.” - Mario
What is sexy to him?
“ I don’t think I am sexy. I’m a very funny-looking boy. I always cut my hair very short. I do it myself. My brother Marco and I like to hip-hop, and we don’t grow our hair very long.” - Mario
"The Filipinos are very nice" - Mario
“I didn’t want to do acting at all. The only thing I want to do at that time was to play skateboard. Acting is not in my mind,” - Mario
“I only have money to buy a skateboard for myself. I have to ask for [money from] my mom,”
“I’m a Catholic so I celebrate Christmas. I’m going to go abroad with my brother, we’re looking [to] maybe [going] to America or somewhere.”
“I just want my fans to support me for who I am and give me all the nice words they [can] give, [to] Tweet me. It’s like giving me power to work and do good work for them.”
“I think maybe, a long time ago, the fans don’t like it when you have a girlfriend but I think now they understand even if you are a movie star, you play roles in a movie and you are an actor [but] you have a normal life. That does not mean that you have to be a movie star 24 hours and cannot get out of it.”
“I never thought of what I like on my birthday. I just want[ed] to be with my family and friends but I never thought it would be this happy. All the friends I have never seen after I went to college I got the chance to see them again, [there were] too many stories to talk about.”
“When I do a new role, like new movie [or a] new drama, it’s like a challenge for me because you don’t know what you’re going to do. Like, you know the role, but you don’t know what it is exactly you’re going to say or do tomorrow or something.”
“It got me shocked because the billboard is so big. In Thailand, I never had [a] huge billboard [like that]. This is the biggest billboard for me in my life,”
“most of the money [my] spent on the clothes,”
“The only thing I do on Christmas Day is I go to church, and my best friend’s house is next to a church. So they have a party on top of the roof,”
“Now I am starting to do dancing and singing,”
“I would like to have kids when I’m not too old,”
